Dining at The Treby Arms

One Saturday evening in October, my husband and I enjoyed an anniversary dinner at The Treby Arms in Sparkwell, Plympton. The renowned restaurant on the edge of Dartmoor National Park is just ten minutes from where we live, and is somewhere we have wanted to experience for quite sometime. With Luke Fearon recently appointed as Head Chef, we were excited to try the new menu, which prides itself on offering local and seasonal flora and fauna.

Saying a temporary good night to Joey the Dachshund, we had a taxi pick us up so we could make the most of the evening. On arrival, we enjoyed a pre-dinner cocktail in the downstairs bar which is every bit the perfect country pub - the type you would see in a classic winter rom com movie like The Holiday with lots of little nooks and hideaways - before heading upstairs to the rustic restaurant. With traditional beams and white washed walls, the restaurant is both minimal and cosy and a place where you can feel both relaxed and refined. The staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere warm and inviting.

Deciding to go for fish that evening, I chose  a local crab dish to start, followed by fresh fillet of Sea Bream for main and a decadent artisan chocolate dessert complete with honeycombe and cocoa dusted netting. Nathan too had the crab, a fillet of beef with rustic cut chips,  followed by a cheese board with a very impressive handmade shard cracker. Accompanied by a locally produced white wine from Devon’s Lyme Bay Winery, and finishing the evening with loose leaf earl grey tea before the taxi took us home, the evening was every bit luxury and pared back fine dining that we wanted and expected.

After a perfect evening, we returned back to the Dachshund who was patiently awaiting our return.

Gemma’s Birthday Celebrations in Bath

In September, Gemma celebrated her 30th birthday. Fashion loving uni besties since studying at UCA Epsom, somehow we have now both managed to reach the years of 30 and some. In order to celebrate in style, a weekend in Bath was in order, which Gemma planned perfectly.

Along with Gemma’s school besties, we all met for lunch at Sally Lunn’s famous restaurant where we enjoyed traditional Bath  Buns. After the delicious lunch, we checked-in to the boutique Bath Abbey Hotel, got ready via face masks and prosecco, and started the evening with cocktails at the hotel’s Art Bar.

After dining close to the hotel, we walked along the historic streets of central Bath, arriving at a gin bar serving gin in teapots. We spent the evening talking, pouring gin and laughing, before making like Cinderella and returning to the hotel at midnight, swapping our Saturday shoes for slippers and slices of birthday cake.

The next morning we ate breakfast at Sally Lunn’s (it’s worth a second visit!) and then had a gorgeous afternoon tea at The Pump Rooms. The truly English experience of listening to classical music and enjoying the finely crafted afternoon tea delights was every bit refined and elegantly indulgent. 

To burn off all those sweet treats, we walked to The Crescent, admiring the Georgian architecture Bath is so very famed for, before returning back to the hotel to collect our luggage, drink another pot of tea and say our farewells until Christmas festivities due in December.


Laura’s Rustic Glam Greek Island Wedding

This summer, my childhood best friend Laura got married on the beautiful island of Crete and I was honoured to be one of her bridesmaids. Having been friends since we were babies, going through primary school together, it was a very special occasion.

The wedding saw a group of us fly from Bristol to Crete - starting the celebrations early on the flight.

Reaching Crete we travelled to the village of Gavalochori where some of us stayed at the villa to help with the pre-wedding preparations including making favours and decorations before the big day, taking some time to relax, enjoy the sun and exploring the local area.

When the wedding day arrived the sun couldn’t have been brighter. The theme of the day was a beautiful combination of traditional rustic charm, reflective of Crete’s natural landscape, combined with elements of glamour featuring hanging bulb lighting, roses, olive branches and chandeliers in the trees, all with the backdrop of a stunning pool villa high up in the Cretan hills.

The ceremony was beautiful and the evening reception and celebrations followed with a chilled Ibiza sound track that played on long until the early hours.

With so much love for the bride and groom, it was a joy to share in their special day and to enjoy such a wonderful time on the island of Crete before and after.
